Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos visited MILWAUKEE on May 20-21, 2017. He was cordially greeted by CONGREGATION at THE VESPER SERVICE AND DIVINE LITURGY. He was welcomed by parishioners of Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Wauwatosa. After the Liturgy Services, he visited the local Greek Orthodox community.
Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos later that week also visited Epiphany Day Care Facility located within the church. He also toured the historic Annuciation Greek Orthodox Church in Milwaukee and visited their new Parish Council members and had a discussion about the upcoming Greek Festival. The Bishop was quite impressed with the idea of how new young Parish Council is ready to take forward their inheritance, the Greek Orthodox tradition.
Bishop Demetrios is a spiritual leader of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago. He was ordained to the Diaconate on October 1989. He was ordained to the priesthood in the year 1992, and later in 1995, he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite, by Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago. Thereafter, in 1995, he served as an assistant and deacon to the bishop. In 2006, Demetrios was considered as the Bishop of Mokissos and in 2013, he was Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis of Chicago.
Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos has travelled all around the country and is recognized for his human rights activities and inter-faith outreach. He had worked a lot to prohibit death penalty in Illinois, state resolutions calling for Religious Freedom for the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, and is also recognized for standing against Genocide by ISIS against the Christian minority population of Syria and Iraq.
